Evental Aesthetics

CFP: Open Call - Aesthetic Intersections 2

Deadline: 31 January 2018

Evental Aesthetics is an independent, double-blind peer-reviewed journal dedicated to philosophical and aesthetic intersections. The journal is open-access, and there are no publication fees. The Editors seek submissions for an unthemed issue in early 2018.

Aesthetic Intersections 2 will be devoted to philosophical matters pertaining to any aesthetic practice or experience, including but not limited to art and everyday aesthetics.

We welcome articles (4,000-8,000 words) and Collisions (1,000-2,500 words). Collisions are brief responses to aesthetic experiences that raise philosophical questions, pointing the way towards suggestive discussions. We're also seeking proposals for Collisions with academic books (EA’s version of book reviews).

Submission and formatting requirements, along with further information on Collisions, are available at http://eventalaesthetics.net/submissions/.  Submissions that do not meet our requirements will not be considered.  With questions not addressed by the EA website, please contact the Editors.

Given the political horizon of the 21st century, an era marked by necropolitics, neoliberalism and ubiquitous computing, we invite scholars to investigate the various aesthetic practices and theories that can be used to explore the tensions, sufferings and modes of experience that are parts of the fabric of everyday reality almost twenty years into the century.

Margins, Futures and Tasks of Aesthetics

Conference of the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR AESTHETICS

July 5-7, 2018, Helsinki, Finland

Organizers: International Association for Aesthetics, The Finnish Society of Aesthetics & The Department of Art at Aalto University

Aesthetics is a marginal discipline. We often have to defend its existence in departments, where the main focus is on literature, philosophy or art history. It is not surprising that the margins of aesthetics have not been thoroughly discussed. What are the schools of philosophical thinking or the methodologies we haven’t yet turned enough of our attention to? Who and where are the outsiders who will, in the long run, leave an interesting trace on the profession? The aforementioned questions are of course future-oriented. The future of aesthetics has been discussed in various conferences and books. Aesthetics in them is still often seen as more autonomic that it actually is institutionally speaking. What if the future of our discipline was more about collaboration with other disciplines?

Conference on the Aesthetics of Popular Culture

May 4-6, 2018

University of Warsaw

 

Hosted by the University of Warsaw, Poland and co-organized with Aalto University, Finland, the conference aims to investigate the aesthetics of popular culture.

The Organisers invite papers regarding the relationship between aesthetics of the canonical, high culture and low, popular culture, as well as concerning the questions of reconsidering the value and methods of aesthetics of popular culture and art, broadly understood, by exploring new concepts and fields of inquiry.

The 50th Annual Conference of the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy will be hosted by the Pedagogical University of Cracow between June 8-11, 2018.

The conference theme, Power and Creativity, is designed to invite a broad range of scholarly discussions related to Asian and Non-Western traditions, as well as cross-cultural philosophical analysis. The SACP board especially welcomes proposals addressing power and creativity.
